Day Four. MS Office got a lot of use today. Its formatting is a pain up the butt. Would I have been happier using Open Office Writer. Doubt it as especially it was a collaborative effort with my partner- she has a tiny bit of linux knowledge like "how do i boot into windows from this?"

You can't beat Windows for commonality.

Day Three. Want to check out a video I made on the kodak. It has become a quicktime file
for some reason. Linux would give it filetype as avi or mpeg or whatever it is but windows
just shows this a s a quicktime movie file. Is it really. It also plays in Real but not
windows. Codecs and compatibility problems aren't confined to linux then
Annoying how programs takeover file-types without asking.

So bad marks today for both Gates and Jobs (and Mr Kodak why not?)

Day two. OK I had a sneaky peak at the Ubuntu Forums but it was with XP so that's ok. Had a look at thing about doing something with a kernel-thingy.

Got a cheap kodak digital camera not going to stick the software on I hear its full of crappy spyware type stuff. I'll just stick with the SD card.

I did want to boot linux though so I could save the pics I took on the much larger drive. They'll have to live on the Windows disk for the time being.

(Also nice to have the use of a desktop search tool again-yahoo as it happens- looked up a password and am about to search for the text file that tells me how to do the technorati tags.)

I 've decided to go on a linux diet. i have been into Ubuntu and stuff for a few months and its been a bit time-consuming. I need abreak so for the next seven days I am just going to boot into XP and see what if anything I miss and whether XP can fill the gaps.

So I started with some good old fashion scanning: adaware ewido and spybot. adaware hits 17 ewido 15 hits and 1 spybot hit.

Then I set up this blog with Internet Explorer 6.0.

So far so good. No problems yet. No urges to reach for a Live Distro.
